Akron Bar Association Elects New Officers and Trustees

AKRON––Ann Marie O’Brien has been elected president of the Akron Bar Association. Judge Mary Margaret Rowlands swore in O’Brien at the association’s annual meeting on June 25 at the Akron Hilton West.

In her address O’Brien expressed optimism for the future and said “the Akron Bar Association has a rich history of promoting high standards of professionalism to our members.

This year, through implementation of our new strategic plan, we will strengthen those standards and benefit all those served by the Summit County legal community.”

O’Brien is a shareholder with the firm of David & Young LPA. She practices in the area of civil litigation and has represented clients involving complex medical and construction issues.

Attorney O’Brien has been a member of the Akron Bar’s Board of Trustees since 2009. She is a fellow of the Akron Bar Foundation.

The new president-elect is Lawrence J. Scanlon, a managing partner with Scanlon & Elliot. Attorney Scanlon practices in the area of civil litigation.

Attorney Scanlon has chaired many committees of the Akron Bar Association in the course of his 35 years as a member including: the Lawyers’ Assistance Committee, the Common Pleas Court Committee and the Appellate Court Committee. Scanlon is a fellow of the Akron Bar Foundation and the Ohio State Bar Association.

Margaret Andreef Matejkovic was elected vice president of membership and secretary.

Newly elected members of Akron Bar Association Board of Trustees are: Kerri Keller, Lisa Okolish Miller, Olivia Demas and Judge Thomas Teodosio. Stephen W. Funk serves as the immediate past president.
